Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood has grilled ministers over their plans to create powerful 'city regions' around major conurbations like Bristol and Birmingham but which could leave towns like Cheltenham out in the cold.
Martin is a member of the powerful House of Commons committee that vets the work of the sprawling Department for Communities and Local Government set up by John Prescott.
'I don't want to find out in a few years' time that ministers have consulted the English regions when all they've done is talked to their mates in the big cities' said Martin. 'What chance of us winning future investment in our railways or town centre then.'
