Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood recently turned out to support this year's annual parliamentary event for the Federation of Small Business. Only a few weeks before he had invited Lib Dem shadow chancellor Vince Cable MP to meet small business owners and entrepreneurs in Cheltenham and hear about the University of Gloucestershire business school's unique centre for family businesses.
"Small and family business are connected to their local communities and they're the driving force in the economy too", said Martin, who worked for a local company immediately before he was elected. "99% of UK businesses employ fewer than 50 people. Vince Cable is tipped to be chancellor of the exchequer if there's a Lib Dem-led government after the next election and I wanted him to hear about the problems small and family businesses here face and some of the solutions the University is helping to develop for them."
