Cheltenham Lib Dem MP Martin Horwood has met with United Nations Association (UNA) representative Alex Hawkings in Westminster. Alex represented Cheltenham's UNA branch as members gathered from across the country to mark UN Day. Former Oxfam worker Martin listened to the organisation's concerns about peace, development and global poverty.
"Last year's Make Poverty History campaign was a great moment and the government showed real movement on debt amongst the poorest countries" said Martin. "But we mustn't let global poverty slip down the political agenda again. There's still much to do, especially on making trade fairer for poorer countries and communities so that they can get a fair price for their goods and services. That would benefit everybody".
