Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood was a guest on Simon Mayo's BBC radio show and was asked to comment on the recent American election setback for US President George Bush. "It's good news" Martin told listeners "we've seen some of the worst opponents of action on climate change removed from the US Senate and House of Representatives". He also said the election offered the chance of new direction on Iraq, involving more United Nations action to lift the burden from US and British troops. "We need to go to the UN and say that Britain and America, under Bush and Blair, have got it wrong on Iraq."
Afterwards Martin commented: "the truth is that both Bush and Blair are now lame ducks, in office but with power slipping away from both of them. On Iraq, and on the environment, we urgently need a change of direction".
