Speaking to a seminar at the House of Commons, Cheltenham MP and shadow environment minister Martin Horwood has praised Gloucestershire Constabulary and Chelsea Building Society for installing revolutionary renewable energy systems in their new buildings. Both buildings use underground 'geothermal' energy systems that extract warmth from the ground and pump it inside - rather like a giant fridge in reverse.
"It's a completely clean, reliable technology with very low carbon emissions and, in the long term, much lower fuel bills" said Martin "The system's not really for single homes but hospitals, council buildings and new offices and housing estates should all have them. Imagine if Cheltenham General saved money this way instead of cutting wards and beds?"
