Cheltenham's Liberal Democrat councillors have elected Steve Jordan and John Webster to be leader and deputy leader of the group. This follows the decision of Cllr Andrew McKinlay to stand down after over 5 years as leader.
Commenting on his decision Andrew said, "Leading the Liberal Democrat group has been a privilege, but increasing family commitments since the birth of my daughter Jessica mean the time has come to step down. The new team of Steve Jordan and John Webster have my full and active support."
After his election as leader, Steve Jordan said, "Andrew will be a hard act to follow as he has done a remarkable job. As leader of the council he had to stand up and be counted when the going got tough and we own him a huge debt for that".
"Our job now is to make sure the Conservative administration is held to account. The current threat to our station; green belt land and advice services shows there is a vital work to be done".
