Martin warns against dangerous dog tragedy

Cheltenham's MP Martin Horwood has raised Cheltenham Animal Shelter's concerns about the weakness of the current law on dangerous dogs. This follows several high-profile cases of attacks on other dogs and on people in Cheltenham recently.

Martin told a meeting in Parliament which included the Police, Kennel Club, Dogs Trust and Battersea Dogs Home that the law needed to be changed. 'We need to give people like Cheltenham Animal Shelter the power to seize and hold on to any dog which they think, in their professional opinion, is a danger to people and other pets - even if it's not on the current specific list of rare, dangerous breeds. Otherwise we'll have a tragedy on our hands'.
