Politicians of the future got a taste of the real thing when the results of the Gloucestershire youth elections were announced.More than 8,500 votes were cast by youngsters aged between 11-18 for 20 candidates standing for election in the three county constituencies of the youth parliament.
Elected as member of the youth parliament for Cheltenham and Tewkesbury was Dan Sundelin, 15, who goes to Brockworth School.
Runner up, 16-year-old Maisie Clifford a pupil at Pittville School in Cheltenham, will be his deputy.
Gemma Gingell, 15, from Rednock School in Dursley was elected as MYP for the Cotswold and Stroud district and 12-year-old Jasmin Pritchett who goes to Farmors School in Fairford will become her deputy.
Ribston Hall High School student Tom Hotchkiss, 16, will represent Gloucester and Forest, backed up by Tom Payne, 14, from Whitecross School in Lydney.
The members and their deputies will work alongside local council youth forums and MPs.
They will also attend meetings of the South West youth parliament every term, taking part in debates and representing the interests of their young constituents.
Winners were announced by Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood, Cotswold MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown and Coun Stephen McMillan representing Forest MP, Mark Harper.
