PUPILS INSPIRE MP WITH ARTISTIC EFFORTS

February 29, 2008 11:17 AM

Pupils at Rowanfield Infants School were treated to a visit by Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood. He was there to open an art exhibition by students from years one and two.

Headteacher Alison Cobb said: "The children have been taking part in an art project called Art Attack throughout the past month.

"The exhibition was our chance to show off all their hard work and it was great Martin could be here to unveil it.

"Parents were welcomed into the school to view a host of pieces, from paintings to drawing and sculptures. It formed part of their Key Stage One topic."

With news that the Government is handing out millions of pounds towards more arts-based activities in schools, the exhibition couldn't be more timely, Mrs Cobb said.

She added: "They've been absolutely loving this topic. You can tell they have a real enthusiasm to come into school in the morning.

"We've certainly been doing our five hours of cultural activity.

"I welcome more funding towards this. It gives pupils a wider experience of the world and helps to inspire them."
