Cheltenham Liberal Democrats have launched their campaign for the local elections on 1st May. Liberal Democrats will be campaigning in all 20 seats across Cheltenham.
Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Steve Jordan said, "I am delighted that we have a very strong team of candidates providing a blend of youth and experience. We are putting forward a positive manifesto providing a real alternative to the current Conservative administration."
Liberal Democrats will continue to fight to protect Cheltenham's greenbelt from the threat of massive new housing estates. However, there should be a higher proportion of affordable housing built in the urban area.
Local Liberal Democrats fully support our MP Martin Horwood in opposing plans for Gloucester Parkway station which depend on taking half the cross county trains away from Cheltenham. They will push to expand doorstep recycling to include cardboard, plastic and kitchen waste. They also propose to improve the standard of street cleaning and press the county council to tackle the poor standard of roads and pavements in Cheltenham.
Liberal Democrats will work to support the voluntary sector, that was subject to severe cuts in the recent Conservative budget. They will also work with the police to tackle crime and anti social behaviour through neighbourhood policing.
