At a meeting of the cabinet of Conservative run Cheltenham Borough Council on Tuesday night, Liberal Democrats were prevented from asking questions about why the budget under spend has tripled in the last few weeks.
When it came to debating why the under spend is now over £1.9m Council leader Duncan Smith ruled all questions out of order. Cllr John Webster commented, "We want to establish why the under spend has increased so dramatically. Would the cuts forced through the council in February have happened if this had been known then?".
Liberal Democrat leader Steve Jordan said, "This attempt by Cllr Smith to prevent proper debate is disgraceful and a clear breach of the council's own constitution. What are the Conservatives trying to hide?"
