The Government is proposing that 5,000 new homes should be built to the north-west of Cheltenham, between Swindon Village and Uckington. In total, they are proposing that a total of 13,800 new homes should be built in Cheltenham and the surrounding area by 2026.
Local Liberal Democrats have already fought hard against proposals for massive housing growth around Cheltenham. It would destroy large areas of the countryside, including parts of our green belt, and create massive new traffic problems on our local roads. At the same time, a market-driven housing boom is unlikely to provide the affordable housing that local people really need.
Your Liberal Democrat councillors and Cheltenham's MP Martin Horwood will fight these latest proposals as hard as we can. However we need your help.
The Government's proposals are now open to public consultation - which means that you now have your opportunity to say what you think. The consultation is open until Friday 17 October.
To object to the Secretary of State's proposals, you should write to:

Liberal Democrat County Councillor, Suzanne Williams said, "This is the time when local people need to stand united, in order to force the Government and the developers to back off. For the sake of our town and our future quality of life, please make your voice heard."
