Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood will be giving tips on how to effectively lobby politicians when he attends a meeting of the local Amnesty group tomorrow evening.
Lobbying is one way in which people can make decision makers aware of their concerns. Martin is lobbied by his constituents about a wide range of local, national and international issues, including the availability of cancer drugs, flooding problems in the town and the threat to our green belt.
Amnesty members often lobby politicians about human rights issues.
Liam Scott, a member of the Gloucester and Cheltenham Amnesty Group, said,
"Lobbying your MP is a way of drawing their attention to important issues, both in this country and overseas. With the UK government seemingly willing to sacrifice our human rights under the banner of 'counter terrorism', and with the focus on Beijing this summer despite China's poor record on human rights, it's more important than ever to make our voices heard to our Members of Parliament".
