The new national bus pass scheme was intended to help elderly people and those with disabilities lead a more active life. Unfortunately it does not help those in greatest need. For "fit" pensioners the scheme is great as if you can walk to a bus stop then there is free transport.
However for those who cannot easily access Stagecoach and other commercial services it is not so good. The new national bus pass cannot be used on Dial A Ride and other community transport schemes which offer a door to door service in mini buses and other specially adapted vehicles.
This means that those who most need transport help are worse off!
