I am deeply honoured that you have once again elected me to serve you as Cheltenham's Member of Parliament. I'm obviously particularly grateful to those who voted for me but even if you didn't, I will do my best to represent you and deal with any problems you might bring to me.
The message from people in Cheltenham was very clear in the election campaign: you want me to stand up for Cheltenham, for a free local NHS, for the protection of our countryside and investment in our schools and public transport. And you want me to play my part responsibly in tackling the bigger challenges of the fractured national economy and looming environmental crisis.
At national level the result was less clear and we now have a 'hung' parliament where no one party enjoys a majority of the seats. That means difficult but necessary co-operation between parties who have bitterly disagreed in the past. Can I just assure you that whatever the picture at national level I will continue to put Cheltenham first.
