Damaged Pavement in Cheltenham Town Centre

Fix Our High Street

Cheltenham’s High Street and Promenade has benefited from millions of pounds of investment in new paving in recent years. But when expensive paving slabs break, they’re replaced by tarmac. Local representatives were told that this would end with the installation of the new paving outside John Lewis. But even this expensive new paving has been repaired to low standards with tarmac.

Max Wilkinson MP says this ‘cow-patting’ approach to maintenance is an embarrassment to our town.

The County Council is primarily responsible for highways maintenance. The Borough Council has in the past paid for a higher quality of paving. The two authorities must work together on a solution, including bringing to a close any outstanding issues relating to the failure to have the John Lewis paving formally adopted as highway.

Back Max’s campaign to sort out our High Street paving

We call upon the County Council as highways authority and our Borough Council to find a long-term solution to maintenance that preserves the look of our High Street, respects our town’s heritage, and looks after public money.
