We want lighting in Whaddon Rec

Whaddon Rec is a much-loved park and green space at the heart of Whaddon and Oakley. It’s also a vital thoroughfare, linking Whaddon Road to Westbourne Drive and Hays Road, which connect to Pittville, All Saints and surrounding residential areas.

But after dark, the park is dangerously under lit. Many residents resort to torches—or avoid it altogether—because it feels unsafe. This lack of lighting particularly impacts women and families, forcing them to take longer, less direct routes home.

We’re calling on Cheltenham Borough Council’s parks and gardens team, alongside Gloucestershire County Council, to install proper lighting and make Whaddon Rec safe at night.

As this is a public safety issue, and with the Police and Crime Commissioner publicly committed to supporting women’s safety initiatives in Gloucestershire, we also urge the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner to help fund this vital project.

We want lighting in Whaddon Rec

We, the undersigned, support installing lighting in Whaddon Rec to make it safer for everyone to walk through after dark.
